WP3 Competences and Recruitment Challenges |
Workpackage 3 "Competences and Recruitment challenges" addresses the expected shortage of competent recruits in the maritime sector. EfficienSea addresses the human factor with the ambition to protect the marine and coastal environment. |
In 2008, when the EfficienSea project was drafted, there was great concern about shortage of competent staff throughout Europe and all over the world, a shortage evident also in the Baltic Sea region. According to the global maritime community, the shortage of competent recruits was particularly evident for positions requiring a nautical background.
Work package 3 in EfficienSea is designed to look into the range of maritime education in the Baltic Sea region and investigate the demand situation. The creation of an international maritime trainee program is to serve as a tool for recruitment and enhanced competence.
By raising the competency of applicants, the sector stands better chances to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Raising the supply of competences will ultimately enhance safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability of maritime operations.
A new image
The maritime sector struggles with an image that reflects the past, or perhaps even worse, there is no image at all in the minds of young people. EfficienSea aims to raise the profile of the maritime sector and improve awareness for different career opportunities within it.
